Quality Standard 7: The Residential Community

This is the standard most directly relevant to creative programming. Outcome 7.1 requires that older people get services and supports for daily living that consider their specific circumstances and enable them to do the things they want to do. The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission has been explicit: a person who receives excellent clinical care but has no meaningful social engagement or access to activities that interest them is not receiving quality care.

What This Means in Practice

Materials matter. Non-toxic, washable, comfortable-grip tools are not luxuries. They are practical requirements for inclusive creative programming. Weighted palettes prevent tipping for people with tremor. Ergonomic brushes accommodate varied hand strength. High-contrast colours support people with vision changes. These are accessibility decisions, not product preferences.
